“This Video was sent to us by a friend who grew up in a house he believes was haunted because his grandmother and himself conducted a seance and played with a ouija board which opened up a doorway to the spirit world.

It is also believed that many many years ago, a slave had been wrongfully accused and hung on a tree in that yard.
Our friend went back in 1975 and filmed around the house and landscape since the house had already dilapidated inside.”

After watching this real ghost video what is your opinion, are ghosts for real?

Jenkins at the Old Cemetery

One of Douglas County’s premier ghost writers has been sighted recently, checking out historic Oakland graveyards and signing books in historical places. She is expected to reappear in Oakland, the night before Halloween, and if you are lucky, you may catch her there.

Arlene Jenkins is her name and she appears to be just an ordinary looking lady, even with her shock of white hair virtually standing on end, as you can see in the accompanying photo. Her appearances are normal activity for her at this time of year, which she says is when her books are most read and sold.

Her book titles tell much about her. Her first book,“Oregon Hauntings and the Unexplained,” took her two years to write and publish. Her work on it began not as an effort to write a book, but as recording paranormal activities she observed after she bought a restaurant & bar (The Longbranch Restaurant & Saloon) in Richland, Oregon, in 1983. It, and she, was visited regularly by an impudent and impetuous ghost named Oscar. To say that spooked her would be a bad pun, but quite true.

Richland was a very small town and it didn’t take her long to find out that there had been a young man, those family had ties to the property, who has committed suicide. Arlene knew his name was Oscar – she actually knew the last name but has never used it, out of compassion for the family — which is why she decided it was proper to name her ghost.

Her frequent discussions about Oscar led to discussions with other people who had experienced his paranormal activities and soon she began writing down their accounts. Arlene sold the restaurant and bar in 1984 but continued to compile stories about Oscar and other Oregon ghosts.

After Richland, Arlene moved back to Roseburg and spent several years selling real estate. After she and her husband retired, they moved to Prineville and then on to Nevada. During that period, Arlene compiled all the Oscar stories and, in March, 2002 she published her first book.

Arlene and her husband lived for a brief period in Yerington, Nevada before returning to Oregon. In each of the places they resided in Nevada. Arlene found people with stories about hauntings and other paranormal activities, which they wanted to share. She again followed her pattern of writing their stories down for them. Soon she had collected enough stories for a second book, which she published while living in Drain, Oregon in 2003. Its title is “Hauntings and Encounters of Different Kinds”. It is a collection of different haunting stories, from 10 different states, as well as four stories concerning bigfoot, or Sasquatch. It is well illustrated and a very enjoyable read.

As people are exposed to her books, Arlene says, they seem to lose their fear of being disbelieved about their own experiences and often seek her out to tell their story. The result is that she has written a third book, “Oregon Hauntings and Encounters of Many Kinds” and is nearing completion of her fourth book. While Arlene enjoys the demand for her books, and particularly enjoys writing down the accounts of those who wish to tell her their stories, she has decided it is more fun to self market her books. She does that on the internet and by regularly visiting bookstores where her books are sold, often to autograph copies of her books. She was in Sunny Valley (at the Applegate Heritage Museum) on a book signing on October 9 and is scheduled to be at Old Town Gardens in Oakland (in the old Palace Gallery, at 120 SE First) on October 30th.

A unique feature of Arlene’s books is that each of the stories she retells contains only what the original story teller says. Each article is given to the story teller to review and revise as he or she wishes. Whether his or her name is used is up to the story teller. No facts or opinions are added by the author, so often the reader is left to ponder and to form his or her own opinion of what the encounters meant. So, is a good idea to pick one of Arlene’s books and decide for yourself whether they are stories of real ghosts and of real hauntings.”
